Statement of Foreign Ministry on Annual Commemoration of Immoral Terrorist Attack on Its Headquarters

One year ago on the nineteenth of August 2009, the Foreign Ministry was hit by a coward terrorist attack that killed dozens and wounded hundreds, as well as the destruction of property. The terrorist attack came in a series of other attacks, which affected the state institutions, especially the sovereign ones to cripple the Iraqi government's ability to perform its duties and thus derail the ongoing political process in Iraq in general, and the disruption of important steps pursued by the Foreign Ministry in its Arab and regional openness and its quest to end the burden of Chapter VII, which has plagued Iraq and its people and to restore Iraq to the status before the issuance of those decisions , and to be a responsible and effective country in the international community. It was the goal of terrorist groups to return Iraq to the era of war, dictatorship and systematic violations of human rights, and prevent building a unified federal independent country that depends on the principles of democracy and the protection of human rights and pursuing the road of ballot boxes and the principle of peaceful transferring of power on the basis of good governance that will lead to social peace, stability and economic prosperity in all parts of Iraq, In order for the Iraqi people to live free and enjoy all the civil and political rights guaranteed by the Constitution and implement the duties in the service of this country and its people. The reconstruction of the ministry for the last nine months was the biggest response to the terrorists and killers, that they cannot stop the wheel of life in Iraq, and will not deter Iraqi diplomacy. The Foreign Ministry recalls its martyrs of the young men and women of all components of Iraqi people and that this day will remain engraved in the memory of the ministry, and it confirms that it will to continue to defend the interests of Iraq and just issues and the unrelenting determination to defeat terrorism and thwart its plans. Compassion and glory to our martyrs and we beseech God to grant them rest in peace and bestow us and their families patience and fortitude.  |
