On October 30, H.E. Dr. Ghanim Al-Jumaily, Iraq Ambassador to Japan paid a courtesy call on the Governor of Niigata prefecture, H.E. Mr. Hirohiko Izumida.
It was the second time for him to come to Niigata followed by the July 25-visit which was made shortly after the Chuetsu off-shore earthquake. Ambassador would like to assure the progress of the restoration. He also visited Kashiwazaki Kariwa Nuclear Power Station before the courtesy call.
Ambassador said," I would like to extend sympathy to those who affected by the earthquake. I hope the citizens will recover from the quake damages as soon as possible." He also mentioned to Japan’s Self Defense Forces. He said," Iraqi people greatly appreciated for the deployment of JSDF troops to Samawah. I was happy to know that they could utilize the experience in Samawah to the disaster relief here in Niigata prefecture."
In response Governor Izumida said," some of the SDF members were from Niigata prefecture. I think we are in the first stage of restoration. We are going to set off full-fledged restore work from now on. Harmful rumor on radiation leakage spread around Japan. It reduced the number of the visitors to Niigata. I would like to send a message that Niigata has already assured safety to the every corner of the world."
