Monument for the Maternal and Child Hospital in Fallujah January 24, 2008
TIn discussion regarding the assistance efforts of the Hashida Memorial Mohammed Foundation, it was decided to place a monument at the Maternal and Child Hospital in Fallujah, Iraq. The foundation was established in 2004 to realize the will of Mr. Shisuke Hashida who was killed in Iraq.
On January 24, the Iraqi Ambassador, Dr. Ghanim Al-Jumaily called on Mr. Naomi Tsutsumi, a sculptor living Nagaizumi-cho, Shizuoka Pref. Ambassador made a formal request for the monument. The Ambassador and Ms. Hashida took a look at the trial model of the monument.
Mr. Tsutsumi designed a mother holding a baby in her arm. He said," I would like to express mothers' love and a hope for future." Ms. Hashida said, "I t is my dream to build a Maternal and Child hospital in Iraq. The construction will be completed soon. I would like to go to Iraq and see it with my own eyes."
Ambassador said "the monument represents friendly relationship between Japan and Iraq. Taking this opportunity, I hope people of Fullujah and Numazu will establish friendly ties."
