picture Visiting Iwakura city and Atami city
December 11-12, 2006

Dr. Ghanim Al-Jumaily, Ambassador of the Republic of Iraq to Japan was invited by the Sekai Kyusei Kyo Izunome Kyodon. He visited Iwakura city to meet members of the Sekai Kyusei Kyo Izunome Kyodon. The Ambassador made a presentation about history of Iraq. A period of Q & A with the attendee's followed in which people asked about the current situation in Iraq and future prospects.

The Ambassador paid a courtesy call on the Mayor of Iwakura city. They exchanged views on education, family unity and so on.

In Atami, he visited the MOA museum where he enjoyed Japanese traditional art pieces.

The Ambassador met Mr. Watanabe, the president of the Sekai Kyusei Kyo Izunome Kyodon. He talked about which has been practiced for years in this group. They have accepted oversees trainees to disseminate the technique. Mr. Watanabe suggested that it would be a good idea to invite two Iraqis to receive training on natural farming method.

Dr. Ganim Al-Jumaily, the Ambassador of the Republic of Iraq, attended a Conference which was held in Kyoto on Dec. 7 and 8.
UNEP has tackled with Iraqi marshlands recovery for two years. 20 Iraqi researchers came to Tokyo to participate in the conference. The Ambassador made an opening address in which he expressed gratitude for their initiatives. He thanked donor countries, Italy and Japan, and ask them for their continuous support.
He touched upon the importance of education to raise awareness on the environmental conservation. He said that not only international but also regional cooperation would be indispensable for the water management.
He also said, "Kyoto and Marshlands have a lot in common. Both have a long-standing tradition and heritage. I hope one day the Marshland will become a beautiful place like Kyoto."


Musical Festival
December 1, 2006

A Music Festival was held at the Wako Cultural Center or the "San Azalea". It was hosted by the Ground Self Defense Force; co-sponsored by the Wako Municipal Cultural Public Corporation; supported by the Embassy of the Republic of Iraq.

During the JSDF's deployment to Samawah, promotional films were aired on TV. The films were well-received by the people in Samawah.

Along with the footage, some music numbers such as the Kimigayo march, Blue Impulse and Japanese drumming were used as background music. The Eastern Military Band played these numbers.

At the opening of the concert, Ambassador Dr. Ghanim Al-Jumaily delivered an address in which he expressed gratitude for GSDF's humanitarian reconstruction assistance in Samawah. Ms. Yuriko Koike, the Special Adviser in charge of National Security Issues, addressed the gathering as well.

A group of Iraqis residing in Japan took part in the festival.


Visiting JOGMEC (Japan Oil, Gas and Metals National Corporation)

picture Ambassador Dr. Al- Jumaily held a meeting at the Training Center of JOGMEC with 20 Iraqi engineers. Dr. Al-Jumaily delivered speech in which he said, "This training session will be a base of solid friendship and cooperation between Iraq and Japan. Japan was battered by total destruction after WWU. However they were able to rebuild the country and became an economic super power. I'm sure Iraqi people will be able to rehabilitate their own nation like Japanese people did in the past. You can see hope when you walk around Tokyo. Now that Japan is technology oriented nation, it is a good opportunity for you to have hands-on experience."

Ambassador of Iraq to Japan Dr. Ghanim Al-Jumaily paid a courtesy visit to H.E. Shintaro Ishihara, the Governor of Tokyo on November 1,2006. Ambassador congratulated the Governor on the selection of Tokyo as a nominee to host the 2016 Olympic games. Ambassador briefed the Governor off the current situation in Iraq and the governmentfs efforts to improve security and services. Dr. Al-Jumaily expressed gratitude for Japanfs assistance to Iraq especially in the areas of training and humanitarian assistance. He also expressed his hopes that Tokyo government will provide training for the workers of the local governments in Baghdad and other provinces in Iraq.


Courtesy Call on Ms. Yuriko Koike, Special Adviser in charge of National Security Issue

picture Ambassador Al-Jumaily visited Ms. Yuriko Koike, Special Adviser in charge of National Security Issue. There were five clocks in her office. One of them was fixed at Baghdad time. She pointed out and said, "Our concern is always focused on your country." Ambassador congratulated Ms. Koike on her new assignment and made commitment to work together to further relations between Japan and Iraq.




Courtesy Call on H.E. Mr.Kyuma, Chief of Defense Agency

Ambassador Al-Jumaily paid a courtesy call on H.E. Mr. Fumio Kyuma, the Chief of Defense Agency and the Chairman of the Japan-Iraq Parliamentarian Friendship Committee. Ambassador expressed his congratulations on H.E. Mr. Kyuma's inauguration for the new post. They exchanged views and opinions on rehabilitation of Iraq.

Handover Ceremony
12,000- Paper Crane of Peace

October 4, 2006

Handover ceremony for 12,000-paper-cranes was held at the Iraqi Embassy. Some of the members of the Sekai Kyusai Kyo Izunome Kyodan made 12,000 paper cranes with a hope of bringing peace in Iraq.
Mr. Junro Onogi, the sub-parish chief of the Central parish and five ladies brought paper cranes all the way from Aichi prefecture. This is under the arrangement of Mr. Kimata, a member of the House of the Representatives.
The Ambassador of Iraq expressed gratitude for their friendship and compassion. He pledged to make further efforts to increase goodwill between Iraq and Japan.

Art Show Message from Iraq

Ambassador Dr. Al-Jumaily attended the opening ceremony of art show "Message from Iraq" presenting the work of many young Iraqi artists including Mr. Serwan Baran and Hani Al-Dalla Ali.
The Ambassador delivered the opening speech in which he congratulated the artists on their work and thanked the organizers for helping to bring Iraqi art to Japan.

Management System of Emergency Medical Service for Iraq Evaluation Meeting & Closing Ceremony

Venue: JICA Tokyo International Center (JICA Tokyo)

Ambassador Dr. Al-Jumaily attended Closing Ceremony of one-month-seminar on Management system of Emergency Medical service hosed by JICA.From Japan side, Prof. Yamamoto, Nippon Medical School and Dr. Tsuzuki, Japan Iraq Medical Association attended as well. Ambassador delivered congratulatory speech in which he expressed appreciation for the people and government of Japan for their assistance and urged the participants to use their visit to Japan to learn new ways for helping Iraqi patients.

On June 20 2006, Prime Minister of Japan, Mr. Junichiro Koizumi announced a decision to withdraw Japanese troops from Samawah, Iraq, as they have completed their mission. Japans decision to bring them home came after Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al- Maliki's announcement on June 19. Iraqi Prime Minister announced that Iraqi authorities will take over the responsibilities for security in al-Muthanna.

Ambassador of the Republic of Iraq to Japan, Dr. Ghanim Al-Jumaily met Japanese Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi on June 20. He extended thanks and appreciation to Japan on behalf of people and government of Iraq. He also expressed heartfelt gratitude for humanitarian assistance in rebuilding Iraq. Mr. Ambassador requested to continue Japanese support in other fields.

Ambassador of the Republic of Iraq to Japan, Dr. Ghanim Al-Jumaily met Japanese Foreign Minister Mr.Taro Aso on June 20 after Japan decided to withdraw their troops from Iraq. Mr. Ambassador conveyed thanks of people and government of Iraq to people and government of Japan for Japanese role in reconstruction of Iraq.

On June 21, Ambassador of the Republic of Iraq to Japan, Dr. Ghanim Al-Jumaily met Defense Chief Fukushiro Nukaga in the awake of Japans decision on GSDF redeployment from Iraq. Mr. Ambassador conveyed appreciation for humanitarian assistance provided by Japanese troops.
